INTRODUCTION

IAEWP is a non-for-profit, non-political, non-racial, and a non-governmental organization geared towards the attainment of international understanding and world peace through education. IAEWP was founded by an educational philosopher, Dr. Charles Mercieca in 1969 wit the help of concerned citizens from 52 nations. Malaysia is one of the founding members' of IAEWP

NGO OF THE UNITED NATIONS

IAEWP has more than 70 national chapters established throughout the world. In 1973, the Association became a non-governmental organization of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Later also, it became a part of the United Nations Department of information (UNDPI), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Conference on Environmental Development (UNCED) as well as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

UNITED NATIONS AWARD

In 1987, the UN Secretary General, Javier Perez de Cuellar, designated IAEWP as a Peace Messenger of the World on behalf of the UN General Assembly in recognition of significant contributions made to the program and objectives of the 1986 International Year of Peace.

IAEWP’s purpose is to contribute to the improvement of man's ability to live at peace, to educate world citizens for peaceful co-existence and cooperation so that all people may have free access to the achievement of science and civilization.

The basic dimensions of our philosophy are a firm belief in peace and confident steps to achieve a new era of world peace. The aim of our philosophy is to create a sort of action that will move all nations firmly along the pathway of peace.

MALAYSIAN PEACE PROJECT TO THE WORLD IN 2008

Almost 4O years after helping to charter IAEWP, Malaysia is now an ICON of peace to the world. The major project envisioned and currently being structured by IAEWP Malaysia Charter is the organizing of 18TH WORLD PEACE CONGRESS in October 2008 in Petaling Jaya.

RECOGNITION TO THE PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA

During the 18TH WORLD PEACE CONGRESS an IAEWP World Peace Medals would be conferred upon the Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi and Deputy Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Najib Tun Razak in recognition of their contribution to foster the ideals of humanitarianism through peace, solidarity and promotion of international understanding through integrated peace initiatives in the region.

RECOGNITION TO MALAYSIA

Malaysia under the leadership of Prime Minister Dato' Seri Abdullah has now become an international icon of peace and in recognition of Malaysia's contribution to world peace; a special ISLAND OF PEACE Award would be conferred to this peaceful nation.

RECOGNITION TO MALAYSlAN PEACE WORKERS

Over the 40 years, more than 25 SPECIAL AWARDS had been conferred to peace workers, statesman, community leaders and dignitaries. Such awards would also be conferred to Malaysians in recognition of their contribution to peace works in Malaysia and the region.

WORLD PEACE CONGRESSES

Working through international exchanges, community outreach and education, multifaceted dialogues with international leaders, UNESCO Clubs, lecture presentations, seminars, workshops, special events, World Action Peace Congresses taking place every two to four years, hosted in Norway, 1970; Romania, 1974; India, 1978; USA, 1982; Austria, 1980; South Korea, 1990; Malta, 1992; Russia, 1994; Croatia 1996; Brazil, 1998; United Kingdom, 2000 and others. The 2008 World Action Peace Congress is scheduled to be organized in Malaysia.
